My first cheque, mate!
There are few things more fulfilling and satisfying than collecting your first ever pay cheque and feeling all 'grown up'.
There are a million fresh graduates and post graduates out there and this April many of them are reporting for the first real job of their lives.
So what do they want to do when they earn their first few thousands? Splurge on their family and friends? Buy a new cell phone or treat themselves to that branded shirt they always wanted?
Surprisingly, religious programmes and not so surprisingly, girlfriends, top the list of 'things' on which the first salary is spent.
1x1 polls
"I have already thrown a party for my friends. The day I receive my first salary of Rs 20,000, I will donate a part of it to a temple.
Of course I will buy my girlfriend something special. And perhaps buy the latest cell phone for myself," says Vishwas Pandya, who's just passed out from the B K School of Management.
...His friend Ram Shailendra laughs: "I have to spend the entire amount on havan as my mother had wished that if I get a placement at a reputed company, we will have havan at our home."
But for many others, the first job is to repay the duration loan they had taken. Saurabh Deb, a student of NID says, "I am expecting a salary of around Rs 40,000 per month. Half of it however, will be spent repaying the bank as I took a huge loan for my education and to buy a lap-top."

But there is hope for the parents yet. Jhanjhri Joshi, a student of K.S. College says, "I owe my life to my parents and I have reached this stage today because of their support. I would love to spend not only my first salary but also my annual income of Rs 4 lakh on them.
They deserve it after all." Similarly Nishant Chandra, a batch of 2006 IIM-A graduate says, "I have not done anything for my grand-parents. So, I will give them many gifts."
